Matching the extinguisher to the fire
Water and foam suit Class A fires in ordinary combustibles. Foam and dry powder suit Class B fires in flammable liquids. Carbon dioxide and clean agent suit electrical equipment. Class D metals and Class K cooking oils need their own agents.
Placement
Mount extinguishers on escape routes and near the hazard, at a height a person can reach, with signage that can be seen from the floor.
