Making a clamped eye
Fit the saddle of each clamp on the live, load-bearing part of the rope and the U-bolt on the dead tail: never saddle a dead horse. Use the number of clamps the maker gives for the rope size, and re-tighten after the first load.
A thimble inside the eye stops the rope kinking and wearing where it bears on a shackle or a hook.
