Reading a rope description
6 × 36 means six strands of thirty-six wires each. More, finer wires make a rope more flexible and better on small drums and sheaves; fewer, thicker wires resist abrasion and crushing.
A steel core (IWRC) holds its shape on a drum and under heavy loads. A fibre core is more flexible and lighter. Galvanised rope resists rust outdoors, and stainless rope suits marine and food settings.
